My most successful project this semester was the "Found Object" project, where we had to find a random object and incorporate it in an art piece. I believe this is my most successful project because there were so many new and different skills we learned from it and it looks the best overall.
If I could do any of my projects differently it would be the "Installation" project because it didn't turn out how we wanted, changed our goal too many times and it doesn't have a purpose besides just sit in the art garden. I would make the table shorter and practically come up with a completely different installation project all together. The table top wasn't even close to what we wanted to do in the beginnig and it just started and ended badly.
To compare the "Contrast" project and the "Animal Potrait" I would have made both of them a lot darker. The were both too light and didn't have enough detail. The animal portrait was freehanded and took up nthe characteristics of a cat rather than a person. The Taylor Swift "Contrast" project was traced and was the very first thing we did in class, making the cat look better because of the more experience I had.
Before Christmas break Nikole and I used dye and water to make a letter. The water made the dye spreads in an exploding manner to make a cool design. You could make this a unit making other artists previous work then cover it with the dye instead of whatever material they used, kind of like the "Artist Steal" project.
In this project we had to find a household item and make it into art. We experience many difficult challenges including, running out plaster, the wood cracking, and the iron wouldn't stay on the sculpture. Mr. Sands had to help us understand how to balance the iron on the sculpture without messing up the artistic value of the iron or sculture.
For this project we were given a group of objects to draw and color in with pastels. We learned the basics of using pastels and and to use different colors to add detail to the art. I gained skill in using pastels, this includes blending and highlighting.
The point of this project was to create something install it anywhere in the school. Nikole, Reagan and I decided to make a table top. At first we we were just trying to make wall art in the shape of flowers but we put our brains together to give this piece purpose considering we weren't aloud to glue pencils on the wall. we took a risk by making it into a table to place in the courtyard.
I recreated a painting by Kiev-born, called Black Circle. All the painting is is a big black dot in the corner of the canvas. To steal it and change it I made it into a semi colon.
My work took an unexpected turn when I was taking a picture of the finished product I dropped and shattered the frame on accident because someone moved the table. Luckily I got a picture of it before it fell.
For this project we were asked to make a painting showing repetition and also following a specific theme. I chose donuts because it was different and it matched the theme "sticky situation" . All donuts with a lot of toppings and glazes are sticky and colorful. To make the painting more interesting I played with different colors and I learned to out line an object to make it more 3D instead of just a flat picture.
A remix is where you mix two characters into one drawing. I decided to use Jerry from Tom and Jerry and Patrick Starr from Sponge-bob. I used a picture I found on google of Jerry for the face portion then did the same for Patrick's body. I learned how to combine to different images into one drawing.
My theme was wait a second, my idea was to use the loading sign for Netflix because as we all know Netflix takes a few seconds to load... Longest 10 seconds of our lives.
How did you respond to challenges that occurred as you worked?
I had a few problems with making the laptop look proportional and not so lop-sided. The key board was a struggle as well. I decided to instead of making a detailed keyboard I drew a shaded group of squares to make the appearance of what could be a keyboard.
Did your work take an unexpected turn due to a mistake or did something happen that was unplanned?
I didn't plan on putting the laptop on a bed. I originally wanted to just draw the screen but to add more shading and detail I gave the screen a background, giving more emphasis on the light the screen was giving off.
